The Ponnequin Wind Farm is one of Xcel Energy’s initial undertakings to provide alternative energy sources to its customer base. With wind power sales exceeding expectations and with the increase in popularity of alternative energies, the project quickly became highly visible and fast-tracked.

During Phase I, Utility Engineering (UE) provided owner’s engineering services and some detailed design. During subsequent phases, UE provided engineering, procurement, construction and construction management responsibilities for the 17 MW portion of the project and overall project management responsibility for the entire 30 MW project.

• Design of switchyard
• Design of power, control and communication to equipment
• Soil analysis and foundation design
• Construction of turbine foundation, turbine erection and substation interconnect
