Project:
NORTHERN NATURAL GAS
BEAVER COMPRESSOR STATION
FIRE AND GAS DETECTION UPGRADE
Project Owner:
Northern Natural Gas
Completion Date: 2005
The NNG Engineering department was directed to upgrade all fire
and gas detection systems at their compressor stations across a
7 state region. NNG requested engineering and design support for
the design of the new fire and gas detection system and the interface
with the emergency site shutdown system (ESD).
Beaver Station is an eight compressor, two building station. The
existing rising gas ESD system was maintained and monitored by the
new system, along with the addition of manual pushbuttons located
by the exits of the compressor buildings. UPS systems were used
for emergency backup power for turbine shutdown controllers and
emergency egress lighting.
Construction was scheduled for the summer months to minimize natural
gas distribution disruptions. Design was a fast track repeatable
concept at each station to minimize parts on hand and simplicity
when employees were required to work more than one station.
Services Performed
- Fire & Gas Detection Design
- UPS Design and Distribution
- ESD Interface and Monitoring
